Prius Rental Posted by EGD [Email] (#663) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EGD) on Mon, 16 Nov 2009 15:50:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Had a one-day rental in a Toyota Prius. Put about 150 miles on it. Cannot see what the excitement is over this car beyond superior gas mileage -- I pulled over 45 mpg on the LA freeways and going over a 3600' pass with about a 8-mile grade.
Handling and acceleration was better than I expected but I felt completely detached from the driving experience; almost like operating a microwave oven. The technology displayed on the center dash was distracting so I turned it off, and the digital speedometer seemed too small and faraway. The kids were impressed with the backup camera but I couldn't wait to get rid of the car.
If I ever get desperate for that level of gas mileage I'll go for a VW diesel or the Ford Fusion Hybrid, both of which are supposed to be far better driving cars. Until then, Saabs represent far more driving value to me.
