2nd Gen S40 - thoughts, mechanical integrity, ?

I can't find that many posts here on saabnet but I hope SWEDECAR will chime in with actual experience on this car. Are the transmissions stout or did they get the Ford kiss of death?

Also, what are some good forums for this car. I don't care that it will be more boring than or not as peppy as my 9-5 Aero because I am looking to move my college age daughter out of the Aero into the Volvo!
