Our 2002 Mazda Protege had rust on every body panel. The paint was bubbling everywhere.. it's harsh in NJ but we washed it throughout the winter and it
was garage kept. All four alloys were bubbling paint also. One could not
possibly have repaired all the rust..any savings from reliability would have been negated by the body work needed.
When I went to do the brakes layers and layer or rust came off the calipers..I was afraid they would crumble.
When we went to trade it in they had to saw off the bolts holding the license plate to the hatch (not surprised). Below the license plate was a massive patch of rust..we weren't surprised.
I see many of these on the road ..all rusting in the same spots. I have seen Mazda 3's starting to rust in rear wheel wells also. Of course the Mazda 3 just won a review in Motortrend Magazine...the new sky active
technology...rusts when it comes in contact with the air/sky.
