I am pretty sure the reason they recommend the overhaul is because you are servicing the water pump, and while it's apart you might as well replaces hoses and thermostat. I am pretty sure the reason they recommend replacing the water pump is because it suffers the same fate all similar-year German water pumps do - the impeller separates from the pulley and you have near-instant overheating with absolutely no warning sign. Statistically, you're probably fine at 75k, but unless there is a specific reason not to do it right now (time, money, etc.) you might as well go ahead - you're going to have to do it at same point, so it might as well be pre-catastrophe and pre-stranding 600 miles from home.
