Rebadged Pontiac Solstice...... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 20 Dec 2004 05:12:44 In Reply to: Future Saturns, Caarma [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 29 Nov 2004 07:46:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
GM should have killed Buick instead of Oldsmobile (notice how many former Olds vehicles are now carrying Buick badges?), and has neglected Saturn for so long that it is quesitonable what the brand's identity is anymore. I suspect GM will use it to fill the slot vacated by the demise of Olds, even though top managers publicly decry this possibility.
The new Saturn Sky will probably be nearly identical to the Solstice. The last time GM sold a small 2-seat car (Pontiac Fiero) the company wasn't happy with sales of 80,000 units a year and stopped production just when the vehicle finally matured to its possibilities. I fear that same mentality will kill both of these vehicles soon after launch.
Saab has it's share of problems too with not enough product offerings. I was hoping the 9-2X would bring more people into the show rooms but it appears the sales of this model are far below expectations. Soon we will be seeing the 9-7X arrive just as buyers are running away from most SUV's.
