any and all vehicles you are serious about buying you should schedule to take to them. If somebody won't let you take it to a mechanic pre sale, don't bother.
After that, I Look at the one in the best shape, that if, possible has a maintenance/repair history. I would rather buy one with a few more miles that I can really talk down on price, and sock the money I didn't spend away for later repairs. I have 3 vehciles all with right at 160k miles, my 89 cherokee that has needed everything fixed on it, my 05 infiniti that has been a perfect jem. and my 06 freestyle I just bought for 2/3rds what the average asking price on them was because it was higher miles and further out of town, so I cannot say how it will be for me.
are you even planning on driving it much or just occasionally.
