Just wanted to clarify what Justin stated :) If you attempt to install a 9000 2.3 turbo engine in a NG900, you definitely want a '94 or newer 2.3 motor.
The 9000 series got the different head/timing cover etc in '94, the same year as the NG 900 came out. Easy to remember that way. It is easy to identify which engine you are looking at, as the two head-to-timing cover bolts are upside down on '93 and older, while they go in top-to-bottom on '94 and newer. This is true of '94 and newer 2.0 motors as well. Another easy to identify difference...the crank position sensor is behind the crank pulley through '93, but in the side of the block towards the tranny from '94 and on.
I have a '93 9000 2.3 turbo engine in my '92 9000 turbo. It was a salvage motor that I pulled from a '91 9000 turbo.
Good luck with this swap on the new-gen...I hope you try it (with a '94 or newer 2.3 of course!)
