Hi everyone, I've noticed a trend of posting mini-reviews of parts/suppliers on the perf BB lately, and in that spirit I'd like to give my opinion on the T7 intake offered by Taliaferro Imports. The car in question is my (new to me!!) 99 viggen.
First off, the heat shield is a work of art, very nicely cut and shaped. Definitely a well thought out piece. After removing the old airbox, the shield fit in with ease and didn't require any additional bending that can be common to this style of intake setup. It took a few minutes of looking at how the AMM secured to the shield, but really wasn't overly complex. The filter was a no brainer to install, and looks great. In the end, the install took about 30 minutes.
The results were satisfying; it's been argued whether an open air filter is any better than a common drop in replacement, which I already had in the car (JR from speedparts), but the sound is great. Now I can hear the turbo spool much more clearly and hear a nice subdued pshh from the recirc. valve. In terms of seat-of-the-pants power, it's not noticeable enough to mention but the spool is a bit better. I'm sure when combined with software and exhaust the benefits will be more fully realized. Thanks for a great product - hope this helps anyone else with a T7 9-3!
