Jak sorted me out recently with a bunch of goodies for my 1988 900 Aero, known by many here as the Silver Sled. (Nice pic below of her I took down in Tasmania). She just passed 300,000km and what better way to add some new bits!
Installed was a Mitsubishi TE-05 with a 16G comp wheel; 34lb injectors; stage 2 ECU chip with higher RPM cutout and diff fuel curve - matched to the previous items perfectly and used with a 3bar FPR; split 3 inch downpipe; and a hi flow racing 3inch cat.
I already had the following on the car: 1S Aquamist water injection; SPG9 AID unit; 2.5 inch hi flow exhaust system with stainless steel dynomax muffler and rear resonator; JSP cross flow intercooler with pull fan...
The verdict? Fuggin awesome... it has really transformed the car and it absolutely hauls! It would be interesting to see what she does on a dyno and I will get a run done soon. There is a very, very slight amount of lag (when compared to the old mitsubishi TE05 12B I had on there) before the turbo kicks in proper at about 2,700 - 3,000rpm and then hold on!!! No sign of leaning out either which is great.
The old turbo used to run out of puff above 12psi a bit and probably became pretty inefficient and just push heat, but the TE05 16G just keeps pulling hard with no sign of let up or inefficiency.
I'm still tuning the AMM in for slightly better idle readings.
Slight bad news tho is that she seems to be getting a bit of blow by (probably due to worn rings - just passed 3000,000km) and under big boost tending to push a bit of oil out the dipstick filler tube. I have just replaced the one way valve on crank case line, so hopefully that will help a bit (and hopefully the a failed old one is the primary cause of the problem)... just went for a test drive and got on it a bit and no real signs of too much oil coming out the filler neck... so hopefully the new valve has fixed the problem! fingers crossed!
So a huge thanks to Jak Ð truly a legend in Saab performance circles and he really builds stuff that will work! Also thanks to David, my tech out at Wantirna Automotive here in Melbourne who helped with the install... another true legend and also a Saab fanatic like us!
A few pics of the items installed follow too.
cheers from down under
