Sorry about that, the ground in the trunk using the spare ground cable works great, BUT I also left:
1) the front ground cable attached at the body and transmission at the front of the car, and all the grounds are great, and ....
2) the front positive cable I cut the clamp off and crimped on another tab connector, a small one, and screwed it directly into the power distribution block on the passenger inner fender, so that the free + clamp wouldn't be swinging around and touch body or exhaust and ground out. It now runs directly from alternator --> starter --> power distro block.
So basically what I accomplished was removing the battery, grounding it in the trunk, and running another positive connection up to the starter, so all the positives tie in, and all the negatives tie in.
I see now there was more to it than I remembered, thanks for reminding me! It was a very worthwhile project in my oppinion, I love doing things myself. I plumbed a spare 8V oil cooler I had (from the same parts car) into the water feed line for my mitsu TE-05 and mounted it into the lower grill where an automatic transmission cooler would go, and there is a noticible temp difference between the two end tanks while air is going through it, but I have not measured the actual difference.
