What to do when you want a FMIC, don't want to cut metal and otherwise want to keep the body shell stock?
1993 900 Turbo Commemorative Edition, therefore I will NOT be plasma cutting any metal, nor do I want to remove the headlight wipers/motors. By not doing either of those, the prospect of a FMIC is pretty much eliminated. So, I've found an Air/water intercooler tank that is a virtual drop in where the rather poorly placed OEM air/air IC is. 10"x9"x4" and rated for as much as 1200 hp for drag cars. More than what I'll ever acheive with a humble 2.0 liter Saab engine...
I should receive it tomorrow, and am now searching for a heat exchanger (oil cooler should fit that bill), electric water pump and expansion tank, and of course the plumbing to finish that part of the build. Aeroquip will fulfill the plumbing tasks with steel braided lines and AN fittings, and an expansion tank shouldn't be a problem.
Finally, a relay running off switched power to control/run the water pump will circulate the fluid.
I'm still consideirng standard distilled water/antifreeze mixture or water/alcohol (reserving the idea of the reservoir performing dual duties of also water injection later...), but will figure that out later.
Consider the thermodynamics of water over air -- FAR more efficient. Naturally the tradeoff is complexity, but considering the collectibility of the Commemorative, again, there's no way I'm cutting metal to run 3" pipes when I can run 3/4" water pipes instead.
Pics will be coming. Been tracking Fedex, and know that the IC should arrive tomorrow.
