reset ecu by disconnecting battery

I was wondering if there is any truth that if you have made mods to your car like a new exhaust and a cold air intake that you can disconnect the battery for an hour or so, and then when you connect it and take the car for a drive that the ecu will give the car some extra performance by adapting to the new exhaust and intake??? I hope that this is the truth, but I wanted to ask and hear some thoughts on the subject. Thank in advance everyone.
