Scott,
Your 1989 9000T should have a 2 pc. design intake manifold which can be disassembled for easy access to the runners. Typically, relieving any restrictions and casting "flash" will provide the most substantial increase in air flow. We would only suggest that you remove any "walls"/sharp angles or restrictions while keeping with the factory diameter of the port. The second area of improvement would be to polish any flow surface to aid in air speed/velocity through the runner but even a rough deburring would be a be more time effective than highly polishing the interior of the runner surfaces.
Flow bench data typically shows that the porting/relieving makes the most substantial difference airflow and the first 1hr of polishing would make the second most effective difference. "over-polishing" and detailing is generally a waste of time and will not bring about potential flow gains(80% of flow increases are usually gained in the first 30% of work done to the port/runner).Formatted properly, we have seen a 2-3 bhp gain on OEM applications implementing a manifold update. 4bhp is typical of higher turbo boost applications.
An abrasive paste facility (Extrudehone) will save time but this service addresses the minor wall imperfections and will not relieve/reduce major restrictions to air flow. We have had customers entirely abrasive paste service their cylinder heads only to find a 10+% increase in flow through the intake ports. In comparison, a correctly relieved cylinder head offers over 30% increase in flow by implementing restriction relief/removal and polishing...all without the use of abrasive pastes.
Just 2 cents worth and good luck with your efforts!
