The 1993 2.3 aero spec engine is the same as the 94-98 2.3 engines. They came out with the t5 engine management system and the 2.3 motor that same year, it was only available in the "aero" manual 5 speed models, but its the same motor as the 94-98 models, so its really 1993 aero models and through 1998.
They would all have the same tranny issues from 1993 aero to 1998 cse's. If you take it fairly easy and have it tuned for resonable torque, the trannies are pretty strong. If you have it tuned so all the torque and boost is unlimited, it wears on them pretty fast. Its all about how its tuned and how you treat the car with you're right foot!
If you roll into it and then go wot past the peak torque, it will allow the tranny to last much longer. Things like drag racing and dumping the clutch and spinning badly out of the corners will take its toll on the tranny.
All 1998 cse's with manual trannies got the aero spec 2.3 engine with tdo4 6cm2 turbo and ecu and suspension parts, basically an aero package.
