A v-band is a type of clamp for holding together two tubular sections. Each end of a tube section is made with a raised ridge, and two ridges (each on the end of the tube section) are held together with a v band clamp. The clamp itself is similar to a t-bolt style hose clamp, and works in an identical fashion. It's called a v-band coupling because the clamp is shaped like a V - the ridges sit together in the valley of the V, and the top of the V holds them together.
V-bands are used in a c900 on the factory Mitsubishi turbo... it's a great design and a killer concept. No more messing with exhaust flanges that have multiple (seized) bolts to undo - just one t-bolt on the clamp and your joint is separated. Since there is no flange the two sections of tube can be rotated 360 degrees giving you installation flexibility.
I think having a v-band on the turbo elbow would be fantastic - it would simplify pulling the engine or exhaust or turbo, and give more options for downpipe angle and positioning. A pair of v-bands - one at each side of the elbow - would mean you could undo one v-band, loosen the other, and swing the elbow up to make O2 sensor replacement a snap.
