I've had the SAS bars on my '96 CSE for 9 months and they are part of the upgrade I did with the Sachs Sport Chassis kit. Sadly the kit --essentially the full Aero suspension-- is not longer available. It was comprised of Aero springs, shocks and struts.
The bars and Aero suspension are a close to ideal combination, IMHO. The bars raise the handling of the car to a whole new level. It corners flat and with about 3-4 psi more in the front tires than the rears handling is close to neutral, and lift throttle oversteer is available at the limit. The car is much more composed, even for normal driving. So much more I find myself going 10-15 mph faster than I intend to, without noticing it at all. This can be bad for your license!
I live in New Hampshire and we have our share of lumpy, bumpy, frost-heaved roads and the ride is firm, but not harsh except over sharp-edged breaks in the pavement, railroad tracks, etc. There are times, especially in Feb and March, when it got a little unpleasant on some roads, but not unacceptable. Just a good firm but compliant ride. In winter, with lots of snow and ice, the handling is also much better and I can throw the car around and never feel like I'm going to lose it completely.
At SOC last year I traded drives with PT, who posts here, who has the same chassis without the bars, and another guy (who online name escapes me at the moment) who had some lowering springs, Eibachs, maybe. Their cars had similar ride feel until making a fast left-right transition turn. Then you could feel the roll come in. They were both impressed with the SAS bars which did the turn with much less drama.
If you could only do one thing to a Saab 9K, the SAS bars would be the thing to do because they fix the biggest shortcoming on the car, the lack of roll stiffness. The install is a pain, but worth the effort.
Hope this helps.
