That's odd if everything is clean, and you change the oil often enough. It seems Saabs have their share of turbo failures, but what you are experiencing seems to me like an anomaly; either you have horrible luck, or there is some hidden problem. If your idea is not too $$ or labor-intensive, I would suggest it, esp. if you have the room for a large enough filter to virtually eliminate pressure loss across it. Maybe you could also try getting a magnetic drain plug, possibly one of those magnets that wraps around your oil filter. If you aren't running synthetic you definitely need to. Also an aftermarket DP such as the one from Genuine Saab should help as the two cats are consolidated into one, and it is mounted aft of the oil pan, so I imagine that it cooks the oil less than the stock setup.
