The Boost Pressure Control (BPC) valve has one two-wire electrical connection to the ECU and three pressure ports, one input (labeled C) and two output (labeled W and R), each with a silicone rubber hose connected to the turbo Compressor (C), waste gate (W), and the turbo air inlet duct (R).
C - from turbo compressor into the BPC valve
W - from BPC valve out to waste gate actuator
R - from BPC valve out to the turbo air inlet
With no power applied, the BPC valve should be open from the turbo compressor (C) to the waste gate actuator (W), and closed from turbo compressor (C) to turbo inlet (R). By disconnecting the electrical connection to the Boost Pressure Control (BPC) valve, boost would be regulated by the spring inside the waste gate actuator. It would only reach "base" boost, which is about 6 PSI (0.4 bar).
To control the boost in the range between "base" boost and the maximum boost, the the ECU uses the Boost Pressure Control (BPC) valve to bleed off some air from waste gate actuator (W) back to the turbo air inlet (R).
