3.5mm inside diameter silicone tubing works great..... I do not know which silicone tubing you used. I use 3.5mm inside diameter (ID) silicone tubing from hose techniques and have no problem with the tubing coming off. The 3.5mm ID tubing has a thick wall and grips the nipples very well. In fact it is rather difficult to remove the 3.5mm ID tubing when you want to, like for servicing the Forge By-Pass Valve.
The stock rubber tubing is 4mm ID. The silicone tubing is softer (more springy/stretchy) and therefore the 4mm ID silicone tubing can blow off. The 3.5mm ID silicone tubing is stretchy enough to use to fit over the nipples with no blow off issues.
I understand that some people use 4mm ID silicone tubing and use small plastic wire ties (aka zip ties) to hold the tubing in place.
