Viggen Clutch Problem

I seem to recall a posting in the distant past about a clutch problem on their Viggen. Well, it happened to my '99 Viggen this morning. I think it is a clutch cable problem. Car is difficult to shift and even more difficult to get out of reverse. Dealler said that the clutch could be out of adjustment. Told me to pull up on the clutch peddle and listen for a couple of clicks. I did it and it made the car driveable. However, after pulling into the garage the car started to run terribly and there was a lot of smoke. I suspect that I burned the clutch. Once I was able to get the car out of gear when it was turned off, it was impoosible to get it back into reverse without a major gear grinding.
Our Viggen is under warranty. I suspect a bad clutch cable. Do I request that the transmission and clutch be thoroughly inspected. Could there be permanent dammage to the clutch and transmission. I don't want to get out of warranty and have a problem in the future.
I welcome the advice of other Viggen/9-3 owners who may have had a similar problem
