Ok, so thats T5, I think there's a vacuum switch and a valve. It will throw OBD-II codes and check engine light if you delete them. You may be able to disable in t5suite?
Charcoal canister is only ever purged during cruise under closed-loop o2 sensor regulation, so your worries of running lean are really not the case. The only harm is the weight.
