The critical comments about driving fast are typically American. The follow up comments were more reasoned. Those of us who have driven in other countries recognize that conditions as well as traffic levels have a bearing on "safety". The traffic cameras in Germany seem to be a traffic menace as many land on the brakes in order not to get a ticket.

I have driven across virtually all parts of the States and Canada at a variety of speeds. Some States call all driving over 100 mph "reckless driving". This is nonsense of course and ignores the fact that even school buses will run 80 mph (130 kph) plus on the roads. People simply drive faster out in the western states and provinces.

110 mph is a good cruising speed and returned almost 30 mpg in my old 9000.

Europe and the motorways of Turkey are great cruising roads.
