I have been following the spark plug and ignition timing discussion for a while and decided to do some research on my own. I contacted NGK Technical support and here is the email they sent back with a variety of interesting options. He says "hotter heat range" when he really means colder. Do with it what you will.

Reference your request for a hotter heat range than the standard BCP7EV: You have mentioned that you are experiencing a problem of pre-ignition on certain occasions and was hoping that by reducing the “heat range” could have the problem resolved. There are other ways of accomplishing the same. For example: You currently have a “projected tip” plug and by going to the “non-projected tip”, you could accomplish the same thing without loosing the properties of the “7” heat range.
B = 14mm plug
C = 5/8 in. HEX
P = Projected tip
7 = Heat Range
E = ¾ in reach
V = Fine Wire Gold Palladium Center Electrode
Currently, there is no “8” colder heat range in the above design, so you must look into the more expensive “racing” plugs to accomplish your goal.
R5686-8 (2984) is a gold-palladium center electrode with nickel ground, non-resistor
R5687-8 (7359) is a gold-palladium center electrode with platinum ground, non-resistor (used mainly for higher-compression engines)
R5400-8 (2159) is a gold-palladium center electrode with nickel ground, non-resistor, with projected tip (probably my choice for this issue)
R7233-8 (5974) is a platinum center electrode with tapered nickel ground, resistor version.
R7235-8 (5738) is a platinum center electrode with tapered nickel ground, resister version.
With the above options, you should find a solution to your problem.
