Not really a performance question but...
If your '85 is anything like mine, it is likely that the wiring harness itself is causing this. 1985 wiring harnesses are known for crumbling insulation (search the archives for more info). My car had an exceptionally bad case of it. I would start by checking the main looms in the engine compartment, and the looms that go into the pass. compartment around the A-pillars for exposed wiring (disconnect battery first!!). Likely that many of these wires are shorted together or disconnected completely. Main ground points and battery cables also likely suspects. Also check the cat. converter heat shield, if this shield is rusted out, possible that wiring under the center console has melted and fused together.
If wires check out OK, try Townsend no-start checks at http://www.townsendimports.com (click on technical documents).
Pic shows harnesses from the a-pillar of '85 SPG. As you can see, every single wire in this loom was bare. It all had to be replaced. Good luck.
