Hello All,
Well i was heading back to school from home. I was on Rt. 15 north right before Corning, NY. A bronco in front on me ran over a tractor trailer tire and it flew up and smashed into the front of my '87 SPG.
It knocked out my fog lights, messed up the bumper, broke and pushed the grill back, broke out the driver side headlight. Put stress cracks on turn signal lights, smashed the hood in (big tire track and dent on middle to driver side) And now makes a Huge noise! engine noise...and i no for a fact, that monday it was perfect, cause i spend more $ and it was totally done. no noise or anything.
So anyway, i got out...pulled the tire off the road, cleaned up some of my stuff. Then i noticed that the tractor trailier was right up the road, so i drove up and got out and asked him, "did you loose a tire" he said "yes i did" I said "did you go pick it up and take it off the road" He didn't say anything. I said "can i get your insurance info and name and everything" He said, "It won't matter, it's just like hitting a dear" I said "did you take the tire off the road?" He said "no, i didn't" I said did you call the police?" He said "yes" So i went back and waited. 20 mins waiting..i walked back and asked him "if he called the police?" He said, "no, let me call one" He called this long # he had written down and talked to him...told him " A bronco ran over a tire and it flew up into my bronco" (it's a saab buddy) and he handed the phone to me ..it was trupper (i couldn't hear his name) And he told me "it was a 'civil' and they don't file a report for that, and just to get his insurence info and such." so i hung up and told the trucker. He said "i don't have that, i don't have that w/ me...it's not my truck, what did the officer want me to give you?" I said "all your info" So his wife? or some lady in the driver's seat read him off a phone # (the long one) and he called back and talk to someone else....and told them a different story, that the tire was on the side of the road and the bronco threw it up on to my car. (it was on the sode of the road now? (offroading?)) And the "officer" told him to give me all his info.... so then he hung up and called the owner of the truck, and said "you don't have to tell this kid your info, you can or you don't have to" SO the guy said he didn't want to...the trucker told me, and i said "well i have your licence plate #" he told the guy on the phone and they chuckled. I said, "well we'll go from there."
So i left and i rattled away. Later i thought man that was weird. I should of called the police then...he would of been fined for not having insurance.
So today i spent 2 hours on the phone talking and being transfered to 6 different police stations. Finally i got the police station which was closest to where the accident was. So they took my info, and i just got a call back at 8:30 and they usally don't to this after 2 people leave the sceane of an accident, but since i did all the right steps...and i waited an hour and a half...and whoever the guy called...SHOULD of filed a report. so she doubts he call the police. SO she was gonna drive out..and check out the sceane and i'm getting called back tommarrow morning at 10:30am.
SO i'm in the right for everything i did, and it's property damage. So all i have is his plates off the Truck. SO we'll go from there.
I took pictures of all the damage. If any want to see, i will post on my site.
Can you guys offer me advice.
If he has insurance, they will prob want to total the SPG cause it's an 87..and the kelly blue book is lower than it is...cause here in the states, they don't have the right catigorization for the SPG. It's a collector, and they sell for $7000-$10,000. So how can i make sure i get the full $ to get it repaired! cause that's what i intend. i figure at least $5G. Plus that noise from the engine.
So all help, please....i will apreciate it.
Thanks guys!
