It is true that a diesel car with the same max hp as a gasoline car will be faster because the power will be over a broader range of rpms eg. from 4000-5000 instead of just from 5400-5500. But remember that in a drag race you are working mainly with high rpms. In any case I still maintain that it is impossible to make the 170-180 say hp required to let the 2.2 diesel pass the 200HOT.
Check out Hirsch's specs -they know what they're doing- 0-100 km/h for the tuned diesel engine (145hp) is 9.3; the HOT has almost 7 stock ..that's a big difference.
Also just to correct myself, the Alpina's displacement is 3 liters and 0-100 times for that car are 7.2.
