boost control, bosch lh, etc, ... long Posted by Kevin K [Email] (#374) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Kevin K) on Tue, 27 Nov 2001 00:34:11 In Reply to: SAABOTR misfortune - kinda long, Vince T, Mon, 26 Nov 2001 17:32:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The profec B is simple and reliable. used by fd owners since 1) sequential turbos are not fuzzy logic friendly, and 2) the transition from 1 to 2 turbos can result in big detonating boost spikes. B's can be found used at dsm part of thepartstrader.com.
But ... if u ditch the APC, then a simple relief type mbc works well for FD converted to singles or non-sequentil. DSM drag guys swear by them too. cheap .. check dawesdevices.com, or search hallman (mark). Start with one of these, since u are making lots of other changes ... less confusion at start-up. make sure retard type knock control is ok for high boost, where can retard creates more chamber heat.
For traction control (lower boost in lower gears) the apexi is nice, but need a speed signal to compare with rpms, IIRC.

make sure u find out what scored the wall ... ring failure? plug ceramic cracking? piston/bore too tite?
hard to find good mechanics ....
I though i had a good fd mechanic to use when I was low on time ... just found out he substituted cheap short cap screws for the oem inconel studs for down pipe flange, and only had about 2 threads engaged, with 2 of 4 cross threaded, and one fell out (exh leak). I just finished .. had to pull it all apart and buy oem studs ....lots of my hrs/days to fix with taps et all, and $100 US for studs, non-std M10-1.5 nuts, and gaskets.
I've had my trident mc head come back from "specialist" with new valves springs set for my cam specs ... I check on the bench and it would have gone into coil bind if installed. And, had a porche head come back from quality 'german' machine shop with visible radial cracks in the exh valves. Same shop f'd up a trans job on my 900T .... supposed to send oem silky smooth, low mile box to eriksson's to be rebuit (faint noise from pinion), and they instead just installed a rebuild cruder M81 box that sounds like it had 300K miles on it.
enough wining

SDS is a nice system, search Beaudreau (sp) for related info.
I've concluded the problem with the bosch LH ecu is the fixed maps at the top end that are based on rpm input only, and are not changed by resistors, volvo amm's, or apexi safc type signal conditioners. AMM output is just not used there. The only way to cure the top end lean out ramp seen in dyno runs, is an MF2 3D type xtra injector driver. There may be a way to use the MF2 and eliminate the rpm limit too.
