Welp, they DID. The exhaust manifold on a 16v 900T did not change once during the 10 year production run... but the turbos did. Til '90 they used strictly Garrett T3s, then in '90 they converted the SPG to Mitsus and followed with the rest of the 900s in '91. I have, on the shelf waiting for me to get off my lazy ass, a Mitsubishi turbo from a '90 SPG mated to an '88 Saab 9000T manifold, taking the place of the T3 that was stock on '88 9000Ts. They are *completely* interchangeable.
Now, in 1990 Saab converted the 9000 to the T25 - or at least some of them. The T25-equipped 9000s have a different exhaust manifold than the T3-equipped ones and they are certainly not interchangeable on the turbo side. My understanding is that those 9000s that got Mitsubishi turbos (like the Aeros, for example) use the SAME manifold as a T25-equipped 9000. I don't know what this means, but perhaps it's another example of Garrett/Mitsubishi interchange.
