I havent personaly diagnosed any saab DI stuff, but all DI is in my mind is a spark injector you should have constant KO pos on one side than a ground pulse on the other of each coil some di systoms share coils & fire odd even & others use individual coils for each cyl. so... with a waveform viewer if you backprobe the harness to the casette you should get a ground pulse that increases frequency with rpm. I think if you go from the trans speed sensor the only way to get rpm would be to calculate gear ratio VS rpm which seems like the hard way to do it.
take care & good luck
