increase boost. The diameter of the "nipples" and the hose has a small effect
on the overall pressure in the hose. Larger diameter hose will increase the
volume of air at a given pressure, but not the pressure itself.
The hose to the wastegate actuator is the actually the "output", not the input.
The BPC valve controls booost by modulating the pressure to the actuator.
The inputs to the valve are the turbo output pressure (high pressure side)
and the atmospheric pressure side (low pressure).
The acuator has a spring/diaphram arrangement. When pressure is applied to
the acuator equal to the spring force, the wastegate will start to open.
This is reffered to the base boost pressure.
Based on inputs from the ECU, the BPC valve modulates the pressure to the
actuator by letting some of the atmospheric pressure to "mix" with the turbo
output pressure. This effectively lowers the pressure on the actuator, keeping
the wastegate closed.
It is possible to bleed off some of the output pressure by using an orfice
in the hose and get higher boost pressures, but I would not advise experimenting.
Playing with orfices, blled screws etc essentially cripples the boost control
system. You will get higher boost, but without the protection of the system.
Probably more than you wanted to hear, but...
