A while back I was running an 85 Golf (a2 chassis) it is the old VW's that kinda started the whole strut brace thing... I did a test to see if a brace did any good on my VW.... I autocrossed it on hoosiers (prepped to street prepared spec) with a strut brace (newspeed) installed slightly loose over fresh spray paint... the idea is if the chassis flexed enough to cause camber change issues or turn in issues the fresh paint would scrape or scratch.... 4 autocross runs later no scratches.... I have heard over and over people saying a strut bar helped turn in or whatever... I don't buy it. Most aftermarket bars are wayyyyy to weak to make a difference anyways... the only car I had where the bars kinda worked was my first car a '77 Datsun 280Z it had solid steel strut bars mounted to a sperical bearing, that in turn was bolted onto a bracket welded to the strut tower tops... Handleing did not change much but the rattle factor improved greatly... newer cars should have all the strength they need... the bars are sooo popular cuz the companies selling them make alot of money on them (they are very very very cheap to produce)
