I tuned for about an hour tonight with the EFI guru and his wideband. We even had primitive datalogging going on, as I had my other friend come along. He watched the EGT while sitting in the backseat! :)
The mapping is now good to about 5000rpm. Boost at the moment is about 7-8psi according to the SDS MAP sensor, and about 10 on the Autometer boost gauge. There may be a leak somewhere, so I will try to track that down soon. We would have gone and tuned further, but I sprung a coolant leak somewhere, looks messier than it actually is, just a matter of finding the leak. Pain in the ass. So we stopped tuning there, after only about an hour. The wideband is again most excellent.
When my site was up, I had a mission statement up about the car. The gist was basically what I listed before about the aim being a driver's machine, but I also spoke about using quality components and not cheaping out. I chose items based on their function, and I did not cut corners. The items used and the install was to be subtle yet would to the discerning eye, would recognize quality and tastefulness. There is nothing 'hack' about my car, which can easily happen when using junkyard pars. The install is seamless and very tidy, I'd challenge anyone to say otherwise. Indeed, my buddy Trevor from Vancouver, who occasionally posts here, saw the car the other day and he thought it was the nicest one around. Personally, I think there are nicer cars, Jeff Proposki's and Todd Campisano's cars to name a couple, but then I think my SDS install is second to none. That said, I have some junkyard parts on the car, but not much. As for time spent, being a full time student in law school is quite demanding. I could have probably had the thing up and running in a month, but so what? I didn't want to rush. To me, doing it right means doing it right, not half-assedly with an end result that looks hacked. I couldn't bear not having as close to perfection as possible.
