When I replaced the steels on my C900, I noticed the OEM alloys weren't a whole lot lighter; maybe a few pounds apiece. (This probably explains why 3 of my 4 steels were bent beyond use.) In theory, even a few pounds should make a big difference in acceleration & handling 'cuz it's rotating mass. In practice, seeing ANY benefit requires that you use the same model & size tires you were using prior to changing rims. For example, if you go from a 185/65-15 on steel to the same model of tire in a 195/60-15 on alloy, then you're simply moving those few pounds out from the rim to the tread. This will actually SLOW acceleration & handling 'cuz you've moved that rotating mass even farther away from the axle. Road-holding may improve (more tread on the pavement), but not the other aspects of handling.
