Short Shifter (longish)

I had originally purchased the SS short shifter because I believed my stock one was worn and I may as well upgrade while I was at it. This didn't fix the problems I had with 5th and reverse, so I replaced the linkage. No joy on that either. It turns out that my transmission needed a rebuild and replacement of varous bits associated with these two gears. Anyway, its all back together now ($!). The short shifter, for the money, is a nice upgrade, but with a couple caveats. One is that to avoid the clunk mentioned by Kevin Yankton I removed about 1/4" of material from the housing with a die grinder (five minutes work). Also, the bearing on mine is quite stiff, such that it has difficulty self indexing back to neutral like the original, but it seems to be breaking in nicely. I like the firmer feel -- YMMV. Further mods to mine included removing about 1/2" from the length of the rod to further reduce hand travel and attaching an aluminum knob to rice things up a bit :-) What I want now is someone to produce a stiffer shift linkage for the 94+ 9000's -- the rubber in the linkage is like sponge (urethane inserts would do nicely -- are you listening Abbott?).
Cheers,
Bill
