Many vehicles come from the factory with synthetic in a new engine. So I think that the concern of blocking wear-in has be discredited.
I suggest getting Rotella Synthetic 0W40 at $12.88 a gallon from Walmart, and change oil frequenty with that, then go with a Mobil One afterwards. There will be a lot of wear metal contamination and much of that is small enough to get thru a full flow filter. But large enough and hard enough to cause wear in the soft bearing shells and piston skirts. Get a really strong magnetic drain plug and you will see a lot of metal trapped on that.
If you have higher valve spring pressures and lifts, then you will be after higher high temp viscosities and a xW40 would be a good idea.
The Rotella synthetic is a good group III oil with a robust addative package, and its priced where group III oils should be!
