My timing mod seems to work, but..

After reading several posts on modifying ignition timing on cars like mine (89 9kt with LH2.4), I took the vacuum advance unit off and removed the retard stop as many have done. At this point I made an externally adjustable piece that can slide back and forth where the original stop was. I made it out of a piece of phenolic. I threaded a hole in it and slightly elongated the hole where the original stop was removed. I can adjust retard within any practical limit without removing it. I have found that I get a lot of power, both low end and top end, with good solid boost by setting base timing at 22 degrees and under full boost pressure, setting the stop at 5-6 degrees. I checked this with a timing light and applying pressure to the diaphram.
I would like to hear from others as far as where they have had good results with timing settings. Is mine about "right"?
