I have Scanwest rebuilds in all three Saabs. The 99T and 84T both have 1978 4-speeds. Both are running Redline MTL which Scanwest recommends. For the SPG, I had a 1990 5-speed rebuilt for "performance": shot-peened all the gears and new ring and pinion set ($$$). Doug did the final assembly and set the backlash tighter than stock to reduce transitional shock. They filled it with Redline "Blue" shock-proof synthetic. All three transmissions perform perfectly, operate quietly, shift smoothly etc. The 4-speed in the '84T has been going strong for almost 3 years now.
Each time I had a rebuild done, it took them some time to gather the parts - especially the 4-speeds which are getting tough to find new parts for. They are very picky about what goes inside a box and will refuse to use anything that does not meet their spec. They literally inspect each part with a magnifying glass and use magnaflux to find hairline cracks. They often throw away most of what they find inside a box. Every rebuild comes with a full warranty. I recommend them highly, they are the real thing.
