For starters, as far as I know there is no synthetic on the market which will attack any seal or gasket material in use today.
I've changed Saabs to AMSOIL from 50,000 to well over 100,000 miles with no problems. I haven't had a manual transmission for many years (wife doesn't do shift), but ran my first one on synthetic gear lube. The fellow who owns the shop which works on my Saabs/Volvo uses AMSOIL 75W-90 Series 2000 gear lube in his own car. Saab now has their own synthetic gear lube, recommended for all previous manual transmissions.
Synthetic oil is not a "mechanic-in-a-can". It doesn't replace missing metal, fill existing leaks, repair bad gaskets/seals. Sometimes it will soften a hard seal and close up a leak.
I change filter at 5K/6 months on the turbos, AMSOIL and filter yearly or 10,000 miles. Oil analysis shows I'm throwing away good oil <g>.
