If I am not mistaken, there was some 8 valve turbos in 85. I am not 100% sure, but I think that they have a different exhaust manifold than the 16 valves. Other than this, there are not any other items which I think are different.
I have listed my email above, so please contact me with any questions you may have with install, tuning or such. I have had wonderful success with my 91 900S. I put parts from a '89 SPG into mine.
