Friction coef may be same at 5k, but the tooth contact force increases with hp/torque, so heat generated by the finite sliding during contact increases with load .... gear power transfer losses are load dependent.
Industrial gearbox mfgs rate power loss a 1-3% of transfered hp, per mesh.
My previous examples were at sea level, since 'sae corrections' are for na engines. For an engine that controls to 15 psi, regardless of elevation, the sae corrected at-the-wheel power results will be correct at sealevel, and about 10% over estimated at 5k feet.
