At least three times I have come in from track sessions with no pad material on my front pads, just the metal backing plates. The worst occasion the piston pushed its way melting through the backing plate and grinding itself down against the rotor until it came completely out of the caliper. This is not caused by pad wear but rather pads disintegrating from exceeding their heat limit. It is rather odd that you had problems with your rear pads. I think there may be some other issues there.
I most recently installed Porterfield R4 (notR4S) and had a HUGE track day at a Porsche Club Event last weekend. Pads survived 25 minute session "cat and mouse" with a new Porsche GT 2, a GT 3, and a
new twin turbo. 145 MPH, 135 and 125 at the three different fast sections of our 2.5 mile facility.
