... use more efficient modern wheel and housing designs, vs the old T3 and T4 stuff. But GT is not ball bearing'd turbos. Like Steve said, GT_'R' means dual ball bearings ( R is for Rolling element (or ball) bearing ).
the gt28R has ball bearings and is rated at 200 - 250 hp. the gt28RS (disco) is a special tweaked version of the GT28R, with higher trims and a/r's, and includes several free polyester shirts with oversized collars. it is rated at 250-320 hp.
hp ratings are likely at 15 psi boost, on about 1.8 to 2.7L engines.
