It all depends on how much labor costs and how much labor you want to pay for. Buying the paint is the cheapest part of the job.
Changing the color is even more expensive as now you have to do the door jams and engine bay. Otherwise it looks stupid to open the hood or doors and see some other color in there.
I've personally spent around 10K on body work over the past 4 years. This includes painting the car, wheels, spg kit, a new hood and some other rust repair stuff. It's well worth it in my mind as the car looks incredible when all cleaned up for a show.
