For power, I like all of Abbott Racing's products except their dump valve, which uses a cheap diaphram and can leak under high boost pressures.
I suggest starting with an ECU; Abbott's is great but pricey. Swedish Dynamics has a new ECU upgrade, but I don't know anyone whose tried it. As an alternative, some others here have used manual boost controllers with good results. Boost is limited to 15 psi, however, with the stock ECU, and the motor is capable of handling more.
An exhaust and K&N filter is recommended for high boost pressures. I use a bypass valve from Bailey Motorsports that's working great, but I hear Bosch makes a much cheaper unit that's good for higher boost pressures.
I suggest (in this order):
K&N filter(hey, it's cheap)
ECU (or or some other manual boost controller)
bypass valve (again, it's cheap)
cat-back exhaust
down-pipe / cat replacement (it's noisy)
ported head (now we're spending some serious cash)
bored-out throttle body
Somewhere in this process you may need to think about more fuel, via bigger injectors or a fuel pressure regulator. Really, the ECU, exhaust, bypass valve, and filter makes a faster car than you'll need. Before I added any more power, I'd address the spongy suspension with springs and shocks. Good luck and keep us posted!
