I never ever ever ever have claimed myself to be a tuner.
What I am asking is this, why does it cost twice as much to have a Saab tuned? From a macro scale, the interface is similar, the communications are similar, the functions are similar. So what exactly is the difference? I am asking. Not telling.
What exactly does Trionic do that is so much more than detecting knock--yeah, it controls the timing, the boost, the fuel, etc... but what else? It doesn't make me breakfast in the morning. What is so special?
I've read all the ion analysis papers I can get my hands-on, and it truly is unique and special. But that's not what is tuned, is it. The rest is standard communications and controls. The challenge is reverse engineering to know what does what and where it's located, when it's sent, buying/knowing/deciphering the check sums, knowing the priorities. So what's unique about that compared to any other car using the same protocol? Hundreds of companies do the same thing on hundreds of different model cars for half the price.
What is so different with the rest? Again, I'm posing a question. Not telling. Asking. If there's something incorrect about the above, I seriously welcome some correction.
I'm not whining, I'm not claiming to be a tuner, I'm not claiming to know more than anyone. I'm asking some questions.
And here's one more question: "they've delivered well-engineered products and those of us who have used them are thankful for it." Why in the world should I be thankful to have the choice to buy something that is, by all other global standards, twice the price of nearly identical products? Why the attitude that I should be thankful for the option? I'm the CONSUMER, shouldn't the vendor/supplier be thankful that I chose their particular product instead-of one from their competitors? If there is a true competetive market comprised-of truly competeting companies, than that attitude you've expressed should be reversed, right?
Customers are not dogs who need to feel lucky when their owner feeds them some scraps.
mcnasty, that's a new user name, no other posts. I wonder who you are? I wonder what your interest is in the conversation? I wonder why you've chosen not to use your normal name?
