It's highly probable that the boost solenoid valve, BPC (boost pressure controller), is what is at fault. It's the black cylindrical object on the radiator fan shroud that has three vacuum hoses and a three-wire electrical connector. It's probably the cause of the overboost and the MAP sensor appears to not be at fault because it's doing its' job - it's telling the ECU to cut the fuel. My experiences have always been rather definite: an abrupt drop in boost under acceleration. Without actually riding in your vehicle, it's kind of difficult to say by your description whether or not you're getting boost cut. A bad DI will cause vascillations in boost pressures, especially under high loads, like acceleration with the needle going 1/4 into the red. If you hook-up a calibrate vacuum gauge, you can get a much better idea of what's going on in terms of actual boost pressures and fluctuating/vascillating boost pressures. It's always a good idea to check the plugs, first, too.
