I don't think I'd be too far from the truth by saying the differences are based on tuning philosophy. It might be an oversimplification, but I'd say that MapTun are more conservative, whereas SQR is not so conservative. Many here (US) claim they've had SQR software that produced over 300 hp without any hardware changes. I've heard some people claim that the green giants weren't sufficient for 300 hp, so I can't imagine 300 hp with the stock injectors - not that it can't be done, but I would bet the A/F ratio under high loads would scare many. That's not the approach MapTun would take. 300 hp from MapTun involves hardware changes that will provide similar margins of safety that a stock Saab would provide. In other words, one could take a stage 4 MapTuned car and run it for hours at 150 mph and not worry about melting anything because the software was integrated with sufficient hardware: larger exhaust, larger IC, larger injectors, & proper MAP sensor. This might not be that big an issue for people in the 'states because their use of 300 hp is only for occasional short bursts. In Germany, it's an important issue. I'm not sure about Johnny working for SQR, ckpaden, but MapTun were the first to offer software that integrated the larger Volvo injectors and I do know that he did work at engine development at Saab before he started MapTun. MapTun offers custom programming, but you have to bring your car to them, or perhaps Fredrik can do it when he's in Kista. For really unique situations, the best practice is at their dyno. But, the staged kits are really well developed, and are very practical for "long-distance" tuning.
