Hey Clay,
I am now a former Saab employee, and can tell you that the 99' Viggen was not exactly a smash hit in non-enthusiast circles.(not that it isn't awesome!) When the Viggen finally was made available, dealers gobbled them up. By the time that most of these cars hit showrooms, the 2000 models were already at the port! What you had here is a situation where you could lease a Viggen (now also in silver or black with 5 doors, and 5 more horsepower)for less money. This left dealers with alternate cash to reduce the 99'"leftover" Viggens. In the transition period 99'/2000', a 99' Viggen (Brand new/0 miles) could be had for about $28k! What to know something even worse? In between model years 2000 and 2001, Saab had over $6500 back on 2000 Viggens,(these were laying around on lots also) netting you a deal of about $29k (+tax and tag) on a 2000 Viggen! Giving what you could buy these for, a resale of anything over $24k is pretty good by saab standards anyway. I'm always amused when I see used 99' models for sale at far more than they cost new! (over $29k!)
