long story short
car went to shop with sheared driveshaft.
replaced broken things and:
clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, master to slave cylinder hose
parts:
group 9 kevlar clutch
talioferro braided stainless line
super blue brake fluid to flush the system.
car specs:
1994 saab 9000 aero (stick obviously)
K&N in the fender (DIY CAI)
3" JT turboback with 3" catco race cat
ebay special BOV
stock ecu at present.
impressions:
compared to my end of service life stock clutch this new one engages much closer to the floor (could just be thicker pad material)
pedal effort is ever so sliughtly increased, nothing major just a smidge. This is NOT the "leg press" I found in a mustang cobra I drove a while back.
the clutch engages over a shorter distance of pedal travel, this makes it seem grabbier but I think with more practice I can smooth it out much better. From a stop, it seems to do better with a bit more gas than the stock clutch which I think makes is slip a bit more and thus be a bit smoother.
I also think my solid rubber motor mounts, solid poly upper mounts (both) and soliod poly trans mount make it feel grabbier as well by removing a lot of movement of the engine. (vibration is up too).
Recently I was out of the car for 4 days and came home to promplty stall it twice pulling out of the garage. So I'm not a pro with it yet.
I have while driving "quickly" (but not all out) chirped 2nd slightly with a fast shift, fast release of the clutch and a touch of gas pedal. Nothing overly dramatic but I was not expecting it, just showed me how much better this clutch grabs compared to stock.
I drive the car to and from work daily, stop and go traffic at times. Not really much different than when I had a stock clutch.
I would do this all over again but I would have installed it myself and saved some money rather than seeing my baby on a flatbed getting dropped at the shop. I also would have waited for a group 9 lightened flywheel, sadly they had no cores ready for me and I had no time to wait. I'll leave that review for someone else.
Group 9 gets a thumbs up, they were helpful via email (though slow it's still only like 2 guys). If you need an order now or a question answered just call them. James was more than happy to yack with me for 20 minutes about all the great new stuff they were working on. A genuine car guy if you ask me.
email me with Saab in the subject if you have more ??'s for me I'm sure I missed something on here. Hope it helps shed some light on this option for us 9K guys.
