I also like the feel of a high HP N/A motor, but I also realized the turbo motor is faster and cheaper to get to big #'s.
I would first start with an aftermarket fuel/ignition system. Then you can get the engine running on 93 octane and get the timing right. This paves the way for more mods down the road.
A good header can go a long way as well.
Then I would get the head planed to raise the compression at little bit more.
The last thing in getting good horsepower out of an N/A is to raise the redline and get a good set of cams.
Of course upgrading fuel injectors needs to get upgraded as the horsepower goes up.
I think 180-200 horsepower at the crank is probably easily achieved.
